Many animals play an important role in the life of humans.  Animals can be very helpful.  Some animals help by doing work for us, such as dog herding sheep, other help by controlling pest populations, for example bats will eat mosquitoes.

Some animals try to help us.  These are animals like dogs, animals we live with and take care of.  Other animals, like the bat, help us and they do not even know they are doing it.

When we get help from animals, the animal can be affected very differently.  Sometimes animals enjoy the help, and it makes them feel good, like how a pet feels when you share time together.  Other times the animal can actually be harmed by helping.  For example, when we use animals for food the animal's life is ended.

With your group, use the worksheet to make a list of animals that help humans.  You need to:

• Name the animal

• Say how it helps humans

• Say if the animal likes the help, doesn't know it is helping, or is hurt by the help.

If you finish the worksheet, ask for a blank piece of paper and make a list of all of the animals, that you can think of, who help humans.
